She added that the evening before Mr. McGrath died away, his family sang and danced to him while decorating his room for the forthcoming Christmas. McGrath was one of the most well-known human faces of the franchise outside of the television series, appearing in several films, video games, and sing-along ventures.

McGrath, who was born in Ottawa, Illinois, on June 13, 1932, learned music at the University of Michigan before moving on to the Manhattan School of Music. In 1958, McGrath got hitched to Ann Logan Sperry. Five kids, five granddaughters, and 3 grandsons were born to them. From 1958 to 2017, the pair lived in Teaneck, New Jersey, before relocating to a ranch near Norwood. By the middle of the 1960s, McGrath was aggressively pursuing both his acting and solo recording careers. He joined the Japanese record company Nippon Columbia in 1966. McGrath once frequently performed in Japan.
